Thinking about learning

My main interest in terms of research is the issue of learning. This is a very complex field which is analysed and researched from a number of different perspectives and leads to a number of alternative ways in which we can understand this process. As a consequence, a wide range of different factors have been held as central to helping people learn.

I have started this blog as a way to consider and develop some of my own, admittedly small scale, research on learning. I think that learning needs to be contextualised, so I'm interested in issues like the embedding of technology in classroom learning, the environments and spaces which set the scene for learning, and the processes of learning itself.

I approach these interests through the use of action research and/or ethnography. I'm involved in a number of small projects at the moment, including:

1. Creating bespoke websites for developing independent learning with a local secondary school
2. Developing a blended learning course for PGCE students
3. Evaluating and developing innovative learning spaces
4. Developing innovative approaches to masters curriculum development
5. Understanding the processes of learnign in hybrid courses such as PGCE (where students learn in univeristy and school environments at differnet points in the year)
6. How school communities develop and transform as they move from old buildings to new.

All of these interests are linked thorugh developing holisitic models of learning and learning contexts.

Reflecting on learning

This is a space for reflecting on the various learning orientated projects I am involved in - an attempt to understand the complex and varied environments and processes involved in both my own learning and the learning of students with whom I work.
